Mose salio de Misrayim 3

Mose salio de Misrayim 3

Description

From Merendjenas, Orit Perlman, 2023

This romance is known only in the Sephardic Moroccan tradition. It retells the story of Moses, his flight from Midian, the revelation of the burning bush and his confrontation with Pharaoh demanding the release of the people of Israel. At the end, or at times interjected within the romance,  are Hebrew words of praise to God. Sephardic women would sing this song during the Passover season because of it's topic.

Text:
Hodu l'Adonai ki tov         ki le'olan hasdó;

Translation:
Moses fled from Midian, fleeing from King Pharaoh.
He went straight to Midian and met Jethro.
He gave him his daughter Zipporah, because he feared God.
Moses was tending the flock his father-in-law had given him.
He heard a voice saying, “Moses, Moses, my servant,
take off your sandals, for you are standing in a holy place.
Go straight to Midian and tell King Pharaoh
to give you the keys of my people, the Hebrew,
Praise be to the Lord, for he has always given us good things,
and his mercy never fails in heaven and on earth.
