La reina tiene dolores 2

La reina tiene dolores 2

Description

From Morenika Izmirlia - Judeo-Spanish songs from Smyrna, 2020

This is an abbreviated version of a romance which tells the story of how a mother in law plotted against her daughter in law while she has left to give birth at her parents house, where she felt supported and loved. The mother in law lies to her son telling him that his wife spoke unkindly of him. He in his rage goes to her parents house and wants to kill his wife. At the end of the romance is the conclusion: that mother-in-law and daughter-in-law always hate each other, versus the mother-in-law with the son-in-law     who are as close as a fingernail is to it’s flesh.
Text:

Translation:
The queen is in pain, she cannot bear it,
- She was giving birth and wanted to go to her father's palace,
I have no one to look after me who is like the queen, my mother,
if the pain overwhelms me, and I beg for mercy.
 - Go, go, my dear,     give birth where your mother is,
if it is for your husband,      I will give him breakfast.
I will give him chicken for dinner,    pigeons for lunch,
I will give grass to the horse,   raw meat to the hawk.
After two or three days,    the good king arrived
I see everyone else, but my wife is not here.
Your wife, my son, went to give birth at her mother.
She called me a whore, and you, son of an evil father.
I will kill myself with this sword if I don't go and kill her.
- May the son be of good omen,   may he live with his father and mother!
- May the son be of evil omen,   may he die with his mother,
Always, mother-in-law with daughter-in-law    always hated each other
And the mother-in-law with the son-in-law     close as a fingernail to it’s flesh
