Esta noche de Purim 2

Esta noche de Purim 2

Lyrics

Esta noche de Purim
no duemen los alhawin
haciendo alhawinadas
para las desposadas.

Vivas tú y viva yo
Vivan todos los judíos
Viva la reina Ester
que tanto placer nos dio.

Las puertas queden abiertas
para pobres y mezquinos.
Esto  debemos hacer
en el día de Purim
Vivas tú y viva yo…

Dadle al que dijo dagla
no pensó en la kuyaka
la puertas no ponen tranca
en el día de Purim
Vivas tú y viva yo…

Vengamos a la comida,
sea poca o sin medida,
más y más en la bebida
en el día de Purim.
Vivas tú y viva yo…

Translation

This night of Purim
the bakers do not sleep
making confections for the brides-to-be. Long live you and long live I
Long live all the Jews
Long live Queen Esther
who gave us so much pleasure.
Let the doors remain open
for the poor and the needy.
This we must do
on the day of Purim
Long live you... Give to the one who says “give it”
he did not think of the pouch Do not bar the doors on the day of Purim
Long live you... Let us come to the meal,
be it little or without measure,
more and more of the drink
on the day of Purim.
Long live you...

Description

Jerusalem National Sound Archives placement: Y7888/2

This a a humorous and festive copla from North Morocco, celebrating the downfall of Haman and the joy of the Jewish people. Haman here is the protagonist, foreseeing all the disasters soon to befall him, his family and his advisors. An almost identical text of a Purim copla exists in the Ottoman tradition as well which excludes the chorus.
The first verse mentions the festive baking (Alhawin - cake bakers - from the word Hilwe, sweet,  in Arabic).
