Dicho me habian dicho 2

Dicho me habian dicho 2

Lyrics

Dicho mi habían dicho
que mi amor est 'n Venecia,
tratando y baratando
con una grande presencia.
Madre, demes la licencia,
que lo quiero ir a servirlo.
Con mi amor yo me quiero ir.
Con mi amor me quiero ir, madre,
con aquél que amaba yo,
viva él y lo veiga yo.

Quen ha de ser mujer casada,
no convien' a ser haragana,
sino lucia y muy galana,
dueña del buen paricer,
yo casada quero ser.
Casadica quero serme, madre,
con aquél que amaba yo,
viva él y no muera yo.

Translation

They had told me
that my love is in Venice,
trading and selling
with a grand presence.
Mother, give me permission,
for I want to go and serve him.
With my love, I want to go.
With my love, I want to go, mother,
with the one I loved,
may he live and I may see him.

Whoever is to be a married woman,
it is not fitting to be lazy,
but rather bright and very gallant,
a mistress of good looks,
I want to be married.
I want to be married, mother,
with the one I loved,
may he live and I may not die.

Referenced and notated in: El ciclo de la vida, pg. 271, Editorial Alpuerto, 2013 Susana Weich-Shahak.

This is a song of parting of the bride from her family and of her entrance into her new family. It is a widely spread song in the congregations of Turkey, Saloniki, Sarayevo and Rhodes. This may be true due to the commercial recordings of the well known Rabino Isaac Algazi (1889-1950).
