Estaba el señor Don Gato

Description

Jerusalem National Sound Archives placement: Yc 1620/6

The ballad is widespread throughout the Hispanic world (in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America, where it is a children's song).

Text:
hai,hai,hai!

Translation:
Mr. Cat was sitting on his roof top,
with one hand on his waist  and the other on his side.
A female cat passed by then with shining eyes,
the cat, to give her a kiss, fell off the roof.
They sent for the doctors, doctors and surgeons:
one checks his leg, another his side.
Mr. Cat is very sick, Mr. Cat has already died,
they take him to bury him to the fish market.
From the smell of sardines the cat has resurrected!
ha, ha, ha!
