El Dio del cielo de Abraham

This biblical romance appears in 16th-century pamphlets and collections and is also found in Castilian oral versions. However, the Sephardic texts from Morocco include elements absent from the ancient and peninsular versions, which come from the midrash: such as the allusion to the "ten" trials to which God subjected Abraham or the intervention of the mekatreg and the death of Sarah. From the haketía comes "se alhadró," which means: he appeared, and "jadeáimene" = protect him.


Text:
El Dió del cielo, Abraham, el Dió del cielo de Ishak el honrado,
para cumplirse las diez     en el monte aseñalado.
- Dáme a tu hijo, Sará ,   que nos vamos para el campo.
- Yo te le daré, Abraham,  y jadéimene del sol,
                           y cuidármele del agua.
- Yo le cuidaré, Sará,     si de Dios fue demandado.
Y detrás de ellos salió Sará,  legua y media iban andando.
Ishak, como era pequeño,     de leña iba cargado.
- ¿Adó el barber, mi padre,  que no le veo por el campo?
- Tú eres el barber, Ishak,  que te tengo arregalado.
- No se me da por la mi muerte,  ni porque me voy malogrado,
se me da por la mi madre,   que tanto me había arregalado.
Si Dios lo manda, mi padre,     no salgáis de su mandado;
padre, amárrame los pies,     padre, amarráisme las manos,
padre, amarráisme los ojos,
porque,con el hervor de la sangre  no quiero hacer ningún pecado.
Arzó Abraham el puñal       con su manga arremangado,
cuando oyó una voz de los cielos: - Abraham,- iba llamando,
- Abraham, Abraham,     no mateis a Ishak el honrado,
porque el Dió de los cielos  ya te tiene bien probado.
De ahí se a[l]hadró un mekatreg,  y a Sará se lo fue a contar.
- Qué te contaré, Sará,   por lo que por tí hoy ha pasado:
kum Abraham, tu marido,   ya mató a Ishak el honrado.
Esto oyera Sará,     muerta cayó en un desmayo.
de ahí se abajó el padre,el hijo, descalzados y descapillados,
y, en la ciudad de Hebrón,    ahí fueron y la enterraron.

Translation:
The God of Heaven, of Abraham, the God of Heaven of Isaac, the honored one,
when the tenth test was fulfilled, on the appointed mountain.
- Give me your son, Sarah, for we go out to the field.
- I will give him to you, Abraham, and guard him from the sun,
and guard him from the water
- I will guard him, Sarah, if it is God who has demanded him
And behind them went Sarah, a pace and a half she followed them.
Isaac, being but a child, was carrying the firewood.
- Where is the sacrifice, my father? I do not see him in the field. 
- You are the sacrifice, Isaac, whom I have prepared
- I care not for my own death, nor that I go to perish
I care for my mother, who dressed me with such care.
If God commands it, my father, do not turn from His order
Father, bind my feet, Father, bind my hands,
Father, bind my eyes, for in the heat of the blood
I would not wish to sin.
Abraham raised the knife, his sleeve rolled upward,
when he heard a voice from Heaven: — Abraham! — it was calling —
Abraham, Abraham, do not kill Isaac, the honored one,
for the God of Heaven has already well tested you.
Then arose a mekatreg (accuser), and went to tell it to Sarah:
- What shall I tell you, Sarah, of what has happened for your sake today?
Arise, Abraham your husband, has already slain Isaac, the honored one.
